My name is Melvin Sancho Hodges II, and I have been living ThisFastLife as a car/truck/motorcycle enthusiast for as long as I can remember. I don’t know if it was the gasoline that ran through my father’s, uncles’, and my cousins’ veins and trickled into mine, or the car culture that I was raised in (Northern California–Berkeley, to be exact) that contributed most–whatever is responsible, it did a real number on me. To this day, I still run to my front window the same way I did to my parents‘ front window, when I was a small boy, whenever I hear a vehicle growl, roar, sing, glide, rumble, or scream by. It’s an involuntary response, really. Join me, as I take you on a ride in ThisFastLife with me.
My affinity for the automotive landscape has taken me down many paths of life and introduced me to many amazing people. I’m sure I’ll spend time talking about some of my adventures on this page–the jobs I’ve had, the joyrides, the conversations, and the conclusions I’ve come to. This fast life has taken me places I had never thought I’d travel to (Annapolis, Binghamton, Sheboygan, Trios-Rivieres, Spa-Francorchamps, etc…) and prompted frank conversations with people I would have never met, had I not had this petrol running in my veins. It has broken barriers that I didn’t know existed, and here I am, finally at a point where I am ready to share some of what I have been privy to after many unpredictable years of living ThisFastLife.
So, whether it’s lamenting about a car that was wrecked by an inattentive lady on a freezing December afternoon, bragging about how many Porsches I’ve had the privilege of driving at a high rate of speed, recounting what it was like to drive across eight states in the wake of 9/11, interviewing someone who is entrenched in this life, or test driving a brand new (or old) car, I hope you enjoy keeping up with the musings of a bonafide car junkie as I journey through ThisFastLife.
After all, just like me running to my parents’ window as a small boy, you have to be fast to catch whatever it is that’s driving by!
